How I Removed From Firefox

Firstly, I want to make it clear that is a safe website where users earn rewards for completing surveys and other tasks.  In this post I simply want to show how I removed the Swagbucks browser hijacker from Firefox.

The Swagbucks browser hijacker is usually installed on a users browser without their knowledge when they install legitimate software.  However, in my case I believe it was installed when I installed the Swagbucks SwagButton Firefox extension.  The SwagButton allows users to earn SwagBucks without visiting the SwagBucks website.

The SwagBucks SwagButton Firefox Extension

After some time had passed without any problems I installed an update for the button and noticed that my Firefox homepage had changed from Google to  This didn’t bother me while I was a SwagBucks user but when I decided to stop using SwagBucks I found that I couldn’t change my homepage back to Google.

My first thoughts were to go into Firefox settings and try to change my homepage.  This didn’t work so then I tried programs such as CCleaner and Malwarebytes which were already installed on my PC.  These programs have fixed problems I have had in the past but they couldn’t remove from my computer.  It was then that I realised the Swagbucks browser hijacker was a stubborn piece of junkware.

For a while I gave up and persevered with having as my homepage.  However, in the last few days I decided to try again and searched on Google for a solution.  I stumbled across another piece of software from Malwarebytes called Junkware Removal Tool or JRT.  I’d heard very little about it but I was prepared to give it a try in my desperation.

Junkware Removal Tool is a small download and very easy to use.  However, I was a little wary at first because the user can’t choose the things that the program removes.  You simply have to have faith and let the program do it’s job.  One reassuring thing is that it creates a restore point so you have the option of returning Windows to the state it was in before you ran JRT.  The program will also create a log when it is  finished to show you exactly what it removed.

It was such a relief to me when I saw in the log that had been removed.  I highly recommend that if you are looking for a quick way to remove the Swagbucks browser hijacker from your PC you should use Malwarebytes Junkware Removal Tool.  Of course, the first thing you should do is try to remove it using your browser settings and to go into Windows Control Panel to remove any programs relating to Swagbucks.  If, like me, you still can’t remove it, try JRT.
